Netanyahu made the election pledge knowing that Israel could never attack and expect to defeat Iran. Israel cannot fight wars of a few months. Iran can fight wars for years. So Israel was never going to pick a fight. Israel's central strategy as with Iraq was to provide the intelligence to persuade Planet Earth to do the attacking on it's behalf. Now with the dire economic situation that looks like it is not going to happen, Israel is desperately trying to get out of any promises it had to it's people that we can take out Israel can take out Iran's nuclear programme.
