Jerusalem was never part of Israel under its declared borders and neither was Golan,Gaza or Sinai. Israel was required to withdraw from territories occupied during recent conflict in 1967. East Jerusalem then was declared Occupied. For Israel to claim territory occupied as its own it would have to have had sovereignty prior. It did not. There was no Sovereign state of Israel prior to 1948. Israel being the belligerent occupier is also denied sovereignty on that basis. East Jerusalem has always been recognised as the capital of the Palestinian State when it gains legitimacy. Prior to 1948 the dominant Population in the region was Arab. The territory earmarked for Palestinians State was left in stewardship of Arabs but from 1947 on Israel made and too k actions to expel all Arabs from the region in the hope of claiming all territory for Israel hence Arab states came in to protect Palestinian Arabs were under attack by jewish terrorists engaged in Plan Dalet. The International Community stated and recognises the status of East Jerusalem to be determined in final status negotiations. Israel is hoping the International Community will tire and just let Israel keep the territory occupied...That will happen in Israels dreams.
