Surely Mr. Oren knows that Israel has never signed a mutual-defence treaty with the US or any other state. Why then does he insist on perpetuating the myth that Israel is a US ally. As a state that is not allied to the United States, Israel has absolutely no obligation, morally or legally, to take the US`interests into account. States only take their own interests into account. To the extent that they appear to take the interests of other states into account, that is only a function of their reluctance to alienate the leaders of other states because to do so would harm their own interests. That is the case for Israel, for the US and for every other state in the world. States are not human beings or sentient creatures of any kind; they are incapable of love or even friendship. They are, however, capable of entering into legal arrangements with other states such as allicances. And once again: Israel has NOT made an alliance with the US. Israel has, therefore, no responsibilities as a US ally, and the US has no responsibilities as an Israeli ally.
