It is very simple, Israel must support Fatah, because if it doesn't support Abbas, then who does it support; who do they negotiate with to try to settle the Gaza problem? Israel is stuck with Abbas. Olmert is on the dance floor and Abbas is the only other person there, so when the music starts, he has no other person to dance with. What else can Israel do, other than kick butt in Gaza and everyone knows that they aren't going to do that unless Hamas does something really stupid. Israel is playing a waiting game to see how the situation develops, the problem is that they are always playing a waiting game. So... they wait and wait and wait.
