A third world country is one from which a colonial power walked out leaving behind a political vacuum. In 1948 the British walked out of the Mandate leaving the Jews and the Muslims free to anihilate each other. Hence, Israel and Palestine are third world countries and, as in many others, various factions are still struggling to determine who will be boss. Israel has not become a third world country. It has been a third world country for the last 62 years. Whether they choose to acknowledge that or not is an entirely different question.
