In Belgium people that speak Flemish differentiate from people that speak French. Heck it took that nation one hundred and seventy four years for the Franophone Walloons to place Flemish on an equal footing with French! It is said that Scots have a thing about the English, and many English have a thing about the Welsh. In France the people in the South not only speak a different dialect, but regard the North of France as "some other place". Then too, Southern Italians and Northern Italians differentiate themselves, too. All the above are not violent or divisive, but part of the "what happens". If we only were able to tolerate our minorities without teaching our children that they are "not good", but "simply different".
