Armoured vehicles maybe, military training no. The rebels are made up of a variety of different groups including terror organisations like Al Quaida. Does the US want to give professional training to Al Quaida especially considering there is a real possibility of a need for America to send in soldiers to secure chemical weapons. Its a good thing for the Syrians that its Obama in the White House not somebody like Bush because Bush may have decided that its in Americas best interest for the fighting to continue because the longer it drags out the more potential bargains to be picked up afterwards. Give it another 6 months Syrias entire foreign currency reserves will have been depleted causing hyper inflation and banks to collapse and when that happens the new regime will be willing to sell whatever they have and for the best price they can get. Just think what an American giant like Haliburton could do with those Syrian oil fields. For Israel as well the longer they are killing each other, the army wasting its weapons it has on the rebels and the rebels breaking into military bases and destroying weapons then obviously better for Israel and as long as their political focus is on fighting Assad and later rebuilding the country then Israel will be the least important issue that concerns them. The only people who actually benefit from a quick end to the fighting is the Syrian people themselves for everybody else in the west and elsewhere this civil war is going to create opportunities.
