Actually, if you look at most of those rulings, they are about protecting Jewish lives while we are at war. (OK, I do not like the olive harvest example). The problem for Israel, is that most of the world ignores the war and looks at Israel in isolation--as if attacking Gaza was some psychotic decision--not a reaction to 6,000 bombs. We need people like this Rabbi to provide some perspective and counterweight.
