The US and EU don't want a nuclear armed Iran controlling the Strait of Hormuz. Saudi Arabia and Egypt don't want Iran controlling the Islamic homeland. Saddam was able to fight Iran for 10 years even though Iraq is half its size. That is because Iran's army is poorly trained or equiped outside the Revolutionary Guards. In the 1st Gulf war the "coalition" killed about 200,000 Iraqi troops while losing only about 50 of their own, primarily due to accidents rather than battle. US helicopters sat 5 miles away on the other side of hills watching Iraqis moving around on their video screens. There was no real battle. Even Israel could make Iran a wasteland if is chose to do so since it would never try to occupy the territory. Israel just needs a US aircraft carrier from which to conduct 24/7 sorties and a few US supply ships to re-arm its fighter jets and bombers. Israel's big worry is certainly Hezbollah and Hamas rockets more than anything after the initial Iranian response.
