Israel is and was the first nucler power in the Middle East. Israel has not been a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Israel would certainly attack Iran with nuclear weapons if it had intelligence that Iran was planning on attacking Israel. This delicate balance kept the US and the USSR at a distance during the entire cold war. Iran must be engaged by the rest of the world, as was purposed under its former leader. It is involvement and not isolation that is needed. Unfortunately, Iran is presently under the leadership of a man who expressed delusions of grandeur to his ayatollah when describing his address to the UN. The only thing that can temper Ahmadinajad is engagement. He then would be left behind and those like Khamenei (excuse me if I have the name wrong but all these leaders surnames seem to begin with KH followed by a series of vowels.) could enter into some serious discussion. As for Ahmadinejad's recent nonsense about the Holocaust, perhaps France could invite the Iranian Minister of Culture to tour the Memorial to the Holocuast in the Marais in Paris and have him issue a statement after the visit. Let it begin in the area of cultural and educational exchange. Take it from there.
