by now, it is well established that on the turkish ship mavi marmara, there was a hard core of a hundred jihadi terrorists who had been recruited and trained by the turkish radical islamist group ihh. this group is part of the saudi based umbrella group the "union of good," created by hamas and the muslim brotherhood. the group "union of good" was designated in 2008 by the us treasury department as a terrorist group. the question is why has erdogan allowed these jihadists to board the turkish ship and why did he decide to risk a military confrontation with israel at this time. there is no doubt that the upcoming proposed sanctions on iran for its continued nuclear and ballistic missiles program had much to do with this decision. erdogan rightly predicted that the hysteria following a confrontation between israel and terrorists based on a turkish ship would distract the international community from the iran nuclear issue. there is also no doubt that the total passivity of obama in the face of weeks of preperation to launch this turkish based operation contributed largely to erdogan's calculations. it is most unfortunate that there is no one in the obama administration who has sufficient foresight and vision to realise that letting loose the forces of terror against the jewish state could end up with chaos and a totally destabalised middle east.
