With the PA conceding the right of return and the parties discussing which neighborhoods and settlements were in which states, it's really hard to see why Lieberman thinks that only an interim settlement will do. Will the settlement blocks be easier to deal with in 10 or 20 years? One also wonders if Hamas became fearful that Israel and the PA were getting close to a settlement and increased their rocket fire to provoke Cast Lead in order to bring the settlement discussions to a halt. Assuming that the PA proposals remain more or less on the table, the Israeli electorate is going to have the choice in the next election whether to take the deal or to hold out for Lieberman's plan of a greater Israel honeycombed with Palastinain bantustans.
