There may have been some children killed by a malicious or scared individual, but most of the casualties appear to have been accidental and a result of the great firepower of the IDF. One need only look to Jennin to see the difference between say the IDF and the US Army. The IDF took casualties it did not have to if it did not try to limit collateral damage and deaths. Only the necessary locations being used as strong points were destroyed. It would have been easier to simply stay out of range and shell the town till there was nothing but rubble.
