The martyr complex that Gus talks about, dating from the death of Muhammed grandchildren is very instructive since they were martyred, not by Jews, Christians, or other infidels, but rather by the forerunners of the Sunni Islam establishment that still forms the majority of the Moslem world. It is also important to remember that these spriritual descendents of the murderers of Hassan and Hussien already posess nuclear weapons in Pakistan, and these weapons could easily fall into the hands of the Wahabi'ite radicals who consider the religious practices of the "twelver" Shites of Iran to be verging on polytheism at best, and perhaps even downright idolatry (although still not as bad as that of the Alawite minority which dominates Syrian government). Is it any wonder, when faced with the distinct possibility of their worst enemies taking power in a nuclear armed Pakistan, that the Iranian power structure is feeling a bit paranoid.
