The early second century Rabbi Meir had a wife who know Jewish law better than he and many other halakhic scholars. I guess it was the uncomfortable feeling caused by this that made the rabbis then and later prevent women from learning Torah and later Talmud. So what this yeshiva has done is not "a break with tradition", but a return to past gloeries - "hachzarat ha-'atarah le-yoshnah".
