First, St. Pats and New York's Temple Emanu-El are private property, owned by discreet sects of Christianity and Judaism. The Western Wall is de facto owned by the State of Israel. Unless the State of Israel represents only Orthodox Jews, it cannot single out one sect of Jews for special treatment. If, however, the State of Israel represent only, or primarily, Orthodox Jews, then it can discriminate against other, non-Orthodox Jews. So the issue comes down to this: Which Jews does the State of Israel represent? Answer that question and you answer the question of which Jews can pray at the Western Wall. Whether he admits it or not, Landau says Israel represents only, or at least primarily, Orthodox Jews. He should have the intellectual honesty to answer the question unequivocally.
