"after the Jerusalem municipal planning committee decided to destroy 22 houses in the Arab neighborhood of Silwan, which it says were built illegally." It's not the municipality which "says" these houses where built illegally, it's the Israeli Courts, including the Supreme Court. All 88 homes in that area where built illegally, most in the past 20 years since the beginning of the Oslo Accords. Under the Ottoman's, the British, and the Jordanians this area was a tree filled public park. Yet Barakat, is proposing to demolish only 22 of them, retroactively legalize the illegal squatters in the other 66 buildings, and build free housing for the people from the 22 demolished buildings on other state lands in the same area. Some tough right wing plan!
