This is a ridiculous defence that only encourages further theft. Ignorance does not indemnify the benefactors of crime. In the first instance they are technically not Israeli citizens if they are living outside of the Israeli State as the high court has acknowledged. They were illegal squatters in illegally constructed homes on illegally acquired land. Israels Supreme Court recognises this and has performed its role in informing the State of this crime. To reward the benefactors of crime as the author suggests and the government will consequently do only encourages further intransigence. A clear message needs to be sent that criminals and the benefactors of crime will be punished and a deterance established. This is contrary to everything the State has previously done regarding settlements so it is unlikely to happen now.
