This news is not at all surprising when we read Haaretz reports throughout the duration of the negotiations between PM Olmert and President Abbas. Although former FM Livni made great progress in aligning more to the political centre, given her Likud and far-right background, this type of personal competition with PM Olmert lacked sophistication and understandings about dealings with adversaries and a pluralistic Israeli society. PM Netanyahu's return has brought a whole new ball game, starting at square one! Without a doubt, PM Olmert was an amicable politician and that's the type of characterization you need in the Middle East - I'm not necessarily saying I totally agree with his proposal then, but at least he of all Israeli politicians understood what compromising and coexisting with the Arabs mean.
