Many of these leftist groups are financed by left wing foreign governments & arabs seeking to influence Israeli politics using these groups as a front. Peres of course is a leftist and many of these groups support his beliefs so naturally he does't want to risk them being delegitimatised because we know who is funding them. How does openness harm democracy? The more open government & openness from politically active NGO's can only be good for democracy because we know if there is any backhand dealing going on. There is already to much corruption in Israeli politics so the more openness the better. Not that they need it because no foreign governments or arabs back them but the right wing NGO's are also going to be investigated so whats Peres complaining about ... you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear. In countries like the US & many western European countries have laws like this where its considered a benefit to democracy but when Israel introduces it then its bad for democracy. The left like to see themselves as champions of democracy so why are they against the introduction of a bill that will benefit democracy unless they have something to hide that they don't want the Israeli public to know about
