they would understand why one still breathing human can be worth an indefinite number of the no longer breathing. but they would also understand how reasonable and legitimate are the protests of those who still love them and mourn them. they understand how difficult it is to be human, so that in some case BOTH sides can be right to varying degrees. that things aren't always black and white, and that sometimes we're tested in our understanding and patience. compromising is sometimes our only option, and NEVER fair.
