if people are not cheating on their taxes, there really shouldn't be anything to worry about. is being audited inconvenient? certainly, but it's part of participating in American democracy, like jury duty. chances are that anyone who is audited will not be audited again. if this is still too inconvenient for anyone, there is a very simple solution: those persons can surrender their US passport. we do need and do not want members of the US public who are unwilling to participate in our democracy. people get audited, and that's the story. if you're not cheating on your taxes, nothing to worry about. if this still bothers you, give up your citizenship - we don't need any drags on our democracy.
