We often hear from anti Israel folks that Israel's "security concerns" are phony, and therefore Israel should take all the risks for peace. They dismiss any security concerns with a huff - they have the largest military blah blah.. The wall is not really about security they say, the Gaza blockade is not really about secrurity, the Golan not really about security, 67 border reluctance not really about security, occupation not about security, and on and on and on. Well Harzion understands what most Israelis know or suspect in their hearts. Their military is not all it's cracked up to be; their bluster is mainly fear expressing itself. It's not just about the Palestinains; it's concern about Syria, Iran/Hezbollah, Iraq, Egpyt.(Egypt never made a sincere peace but is bribed by the US to keep a fake peace, and could turn at anytime) Whenever the Israelis sit down to talk peace, the Palestinians refuse to discuss security, alarming the Israelis even further. Now Harzion, and others of his ilk, appear to relish the idea of thousands of Israelis slaughtered, but I believe most Palestinian supporters are decent people, interested in a fair peace, not bloodthirsty freaks. If we can combine Harzion's insights with their good will, perhaps peace is possible.
