If Israel's intelligence on Hizbollah is so good, you would think that the IDF would have done a better job in the 2006 war. - Comment - Israel News | Haaretz Daily Newspaper

During the course of the 2006 war, the Israeli spokesman, Mark Regev outlines a number of objectives that Israel expected to accomplish before the war ended. Among these were (1) the return of the captured IDF men, (2) stopping the Hizbollah rocket fire, (3) disarming Hizbollah, (4) "Decapitating" Hizbollah, (5) eliminating Hizbollah as a threat.........None of these goals were accomplished by Israel. None were even close to being accomplished. On the one occassion when the IDF came into direct contact with Hizbollah there was a visious firefight causeing the IDF to withdraw, leaving a number of burning tanks behind. The IDF ground forces did not attempt to reengage Hizbollah. In terms of high tech equipment, Israel has an overwhelming advantage. The same goes for intelligence services. Still, Israel lost that war in detail. Israel fired their defense minister, the chief of staff, and seven other generals. They rewrote their manual on reserve deployment and appointed the Winograd committee to investigate and find more fault. Now we have this map. Whoppee.
