Here's the thing. Sooner or later the American troops will come away from Iraq and Afghanistan. After that then the region will reach a natural equilibrium. The same thing happened in Viet Nam. America faked the evidence to start the war, carried it on for almost a decade and then pulled out, throwing the ball to the South Vietnamese. Within two years it was all over. The Americans (and South Vietnamese) lost. More than 50,000 American dead and more than a million Vietnamese dead. Now, after several decades, relations with Viet Nam are fairly normal and it is a stable and prospering nation. Viet Nam could not even begin to heal until after the Americans left. The same is true of Iraq and Afghanistan. We can't stay there forever. For Israel, things are a little different. The are in the mideast and there they hope to stay. This means that they want the Americans to keep troops there and they will want to fan the fire between Islam and the west. Israels interests are opposite of Americas interests. I wonder who is controlling American mideast policy.
