There is actually a very precise gauge available to determine the correct amount of force appropriate in this situation. The moment Shalit is released and the Qassams permanently stop will be an indicator that the applied force was exactly the correct amount. If the IDF increases the force beyond that point, it will be a disproportionate amount. Currently we are applying insufficient force, especially since polls indicate that the majority of Arabs believe the kidnapping and Qassams are a good idea. When the force increases to the correct level, these poll numbers will likely change, as well.
