The IDF is VERY smart, and it has avoided falling in the Hetzbollah trap. If IDF would have done it the old style (e.g.6 days war) many more Isareli boys would have lost their lifes and many tanks would be disabled by roadside bombs. The IDF has seen insurgency at work in Iraq and has learned their tactics. It has also learned in both recent Iraq wars the effects of airforce bombing in "softening" the enemy (when all the news writers were saying the the only thing the bombing achieved was "moving sand". An old yiddish saying "you cannot show to a fool a work that is half finished" definitely applies here.
