Hamas's attacks are more like whiffle balls, while the IDF's attacks are more like grenades. The whiffle balls never do any serious damage, while the sniper rounds kill bad guys, and whatever innocents happen to be standing near (which is not hard in a city with one of the highest population densities in the world). That doesn't make the whiffle ball attacks right--they are war crimes and should be condemned as such--but if the "retaliation" causes much more civilian damage, they should be condemned that much more.
