I wonder if Mr. Schocken realizes what his "idealistic" peace would mean. I wonder if Mr. Schocken knows that part of the reason for the founding of the Jewish State WHEN IT WAS FOUNDED, was to prevent a Holocaust ever happening again. I wonder if Mr. Schocken sees that the Jewish State as such would disappear as a direct result of that type of peace. To avoid the assimilation of Israeli Jews we have to do everything in our power to prevent a situation that exists in many parts of the United States where Jews lose their Jewishness because of being unprepared for intermingling with people of other religions. This would not be a danger if Jews were given an education which succeeded in instilling in them a strong Jewish pride and identity. Then, we could really be A Light Unto the Nations without fear of assimilation.
