If it ain't broke,don't mend it. israel's economy is fine.Housing can be obtained if one thinks ahead by working and SAVING. The Govt can doso much,but ultimatelyit is up to the people to think ahead and prepare accordingly. As for "public" housing: Even then the occupants have to pay rent .nothing is free in this world/.You get what you want,by putting in as much as you can afford.In the UK there is "council housing" Once they lived in it eventually they purchase it if they wish. These protestors are middle class people..What are they complaining about is a puzzle..
