I figured Chris was being sarcastic. Many people like to spread myths that Ireland helped the Germans and left lights on in the cities to help the Luftwaffe or gave fuel and food to u-boat crews. It is true that the IRA attempted to help the Germans but that did not turn out well with the IRA chief of staff dying on board a u-boat and all of the German spies in Ireland being captured. Churchill wanted to re-invade Ireland when the war broke out and if he thought the Irish government was helping the Germans he would have had no problem occupying the country. The government interned IRA members for the duration of the war. They even let IRA die on hunger strike and executed members.
