As an American Jewish Mother, I raised my son, to stand up and give his seat to anyone who is elderly, (man or woman,) anyone disabled, or anyone who seems to need a seat. Respect is showing kindness, sensitivity and care to our fellow human beings - and being grateful that we have the strength, or youth to stand. Respect is not some automatic ritual based in arbitrary gender-based bias and designed to oppress one gender or the other...
