Ayalon is a former general and former head of the Shin Bet. But he is special in that he has a social conscience and agenda. He has no political experience yet, so his election now for Labor leader will allow him to serve as Defense Minister, gain political experience, and become better known to the public. I am not sure Ayalon has good and clever ideas as a statesman. From one article of his that I read I doubt this. But let him have a chance to express himself. Barak, on the other hand, is a brilliant man with clever ideas. But he failed miserably because of his poor peoples skills. People don't change much in this area. I would keep him on reserve in case Ayalon fails. There will be another election for Labor leader shortly before the national elections.
