I'm sure that Avineri, the "leftist" historian lately turned Likudniks' ideological lackey, would find the "facts/narrative" formula quite differently... - Comment - Israel News | Haaretz Daily Newspaper

... when it comes to the Six-Days War and the side that started it. All the text is just a half-glass and full-glass manipulation depending on the side considered. Ideology par excellence. The fact is that not far ago very few Western-based Jews could be convinced, that the State of the Jews in Palestine is a sane idea. That fact has changed over the three decades, and has changed in result of the new Zionist narrative. The fact is that the Palestinian Arabs have been living in that place for the time reaching far beyond the first Western concepts and practices of the state nationalism. That fact was not conditioned by the Palestinian narrative. But that fact have changed because of the new-born Zionist narrative, and as the consequence 750 000 Palestinian Arabs had to go. Perhaps Avineri thinks that the local Palestinian people and the surrounding Arab countries had to adopt Zionist narrative as their own instead of fighting back, and indeed why didn't they. Avineri is contradicting his life-time intellectual line (see his 'Intellectual Origins of Israel'), according to which the narrative is what moves the fact, and that Israel in this sense is a "Permanent Revolution". A lackey from Likud's propaganda department.
