What I don't understand is how UNESCO or any other UN agency can grant the palestinians membership if they don't actually have a state? They want a state and most the world supports them getting one but they don't have it yet so how can they join UN agnencies before they actually have statehood. As for idea of giving them membership of some of these other bodies they want membership of it will be a nightmare and only crete more and more complications. Can anybody imagine the palestinians on the IAEA, they would constantly be trying to raise issues over Israel and its LEGAL nuclear program just to make trouble. Hopefully if the US follows through with its threat to withdraw funding to UNESCO which makes up 22% of their budget which is going to mean that fees for other countries go up or it is able to do much less then other bodies will not be so eager to grant palestinians membership in future. This is getting quite profitable for the US. First they have threatened to cut the annual $200 million given to the palestinians if they make a bid for UN membership ( which the US will enssure fails anyway ince it gets to the Security Council ), then thanks to UNESCO admitting the palestinians its just saved itself another $80 million and if the UN grants palestinians membership of any other agencies then the US will cut funding to those as well which will save America even more money. If Obama wants to cut the national debt the US should stop bankrolling all these UN agencies anyway which being members of doesnt do anything for American interests.
