Whether the story is true or not, I assume the leak of it is an attempt by Mossad to lessen some of the diplomatic damage. It might work, if the pro-Israel lobby within the Tories is strong enough, which it probably is. However, if it's not it could all backfire. If I was a Tory strategist I'd currently be weighing up the advantages over pursuing this issue. Pursuing it would upset the Jewish lobby in Britain. On the other hand, if there's any truth in the allegations, it would be a great opportunity to crucify Brown. 'Brown sacrifices UK interests. Brown puts UK passport holders at risk etc. etc.'
