I think with ethnic humor you must be careful. Jewish people telling each other Jewish jokes is OK. Why? Because they know for sure it's just a joke. But when somebody who is not Jewish tells a Jewish joke their motives will always be questioned, and that's normal. If two African-Americans tell each other a racial joke, between themselves it's OK. But from a white guy the motives again would be suspect. That's just the way of the world, nothing should be read into it. I'm sure it's the same with Polish jokes, Italian jokes etc., people naturally will question the outsider who tells an ethnic joke.
