Though no one who has studied his life, or paid attention to him when he was still alive, could imagine that David ben Gurion was an advocate of religious oppression, we must come to grips with the fact that the nation he was most instrumental in creating has become something other than what he would have wished. I am a 'Zionist' folks. Israel MUSt exist because Jews have to have SOMEWHERE to go when it is impossible to stay where they are. But does that mean that anyone who is an Israeli by birth should not be a 'real' Israeli simply because they are not Jewish? This is a crucial distinction which must be resolved between the Israeli right an the rest of Israelis - and soon.
