Participating in the reconciliation talks does not mean he influenced the outcome and the future direction of Palestinian politics. His statement is diametrically opposed to Abu Rudainah's, so I suspect he was worsted in the talks and has been sidelined. It would be naïve to underestimate the opposition among Palestinians to this agreement and the efforts that will be made to abort it, of which Mr. Zahhar’s statement is a first sign. But by the same token it is not reasonable to believe that Abbas and Fayyad entered into this agreement knowing that it will put an end to their diplomacy.
