I'm defending this racist, but this "decision" reeks of conspiracy and resembles a decision by Israel's political elites to coerce a reprehensible man to exit stage right merely because they've concluded that he represents too great a political liability. Try as they might, however, their machinations are bound to fail: Mr. Lieberman, in all his racist glory, IS the State of Israel. He's its real embodiment. And no last minute effort to side-line this character in the vain attempt of currying favor with Western nations partial to a less overt, but no less pernicious, brand of Israeli hatred (e.g. Shimon Peres and his legacy in South Africa) will change that deeply tragic, but fundamental truth.
