Obama has not lost his battle with Netanyahu. He has merely finessed him. I can't believe that Brazil and its sister South American countries have taken this stand on the issue of Palestinian statehood without a wink and pat from the US. And now it is becoming clear that even England is pushing discreetly for Palestinian statehood. In the meantime, Obama has avoided a side-battle in the US which may have impeded the passage of the bills he was pushing in Congress. When the world recognizes Palestinian statehood - which is bound to happen when the Arab League announces its position in February - Netanyahu, or whoever is in his place, will be delighted to accept the American bridging propositions.
