My expectations for Israel were always too high, I just didn't know it. When they said they were a democracy and a light unto nations, I believed them. It wasn't until the reality of the last 40 years hit home that I understood how mistaken I had been. My expectations now are only that Israel will behave as least as well as several well known 'marginal' democracies.
