I strongly agree with this column, with one important exception. I can no longer sing Naomi Shemer's song. It falsifies history and supports the overlooking of the Arab population which the author decries. How can one sing "the market place is empty," as the song states? The markets of East jerusalem were not empty before 1967. Perhaps they were empty of Israelis/Jews but they were full of Palestinian Arabs. The song is as racist as all the problematic policies to which the author wants to call attention and is symptomatic of them.
