a preemptive strike by israel on irans nuclear facilities would be idiotic. it would unite and encourage the most radical muslim elements and invite retaliation. an israeli attack would be an act of war and iran would have a legitimate right to retaliate, which it would do with conventional weapons killing thousands of israelis and then what? here's a better idea; the chase plan. the iranians/arabs justify their desire to obtain nuclear weapons because they are threatened by israels nuclear arsenal. the arab league has proposed a "nuclear free" middle east. why not call their bluff? israel should agree to disarm and sign a "nuclear free" agreement. iran which claims its nuclear program is for peaceful means only, could not refuse to sign on. any nation that violated the agreement would be labled a "pariah state" and isolated, trade and travel embargoes etc. israels conventional military provides all the protection it needs. the united states could provide a nuclear guarantee to all signatories. of course my plan would be even better in the context of an overall peace agreement, but now i'm dreaming...................
