Obama is under international pressure to react but the majority of the American public are against intervention and Obama knows if anything goes wrong it could destroy his presidency so he doesn't want to do anything more than the bare minimum. As long as Assad does nothing stupid in retaliation Obama will bomb a couple of hundred strategic targets and that's it. He has already gone on the record and said there are no plans to destroy chemical weapons sites or topple Assad. So Obama will destroy a few places, call off the military action and then let Assad get back to fighting his war and providing he doesn't use chemical weapons again Obama will not intervene even if it men's te war lasting another 2.5 years. Anybody who thinks Oama is going to be bringing down Assad for te rebels is going to b very disappointed. He is also not going to create some kind of long term no fly zone where US jets or drones provide the rebels with air cover in their missions. So if the rebels want to carry out an attack they will not have the US protecting them from enemy soldiers. If Assad doesn't escalate this by the time the military operation is over the rebels are going to be shouting and screaming that the US betrayed them and so when this is all over he US. Will probably find itself in a position where it's hated by just about everybody is Syria. There will also be no desire in Syria to start signing peace treaties with Israel so think the left have to accept the fact there will be no support for the the idea of land or peace with Syria
