our tradition says, one life saved is like the whole world. but if in saving that life we endanger countless others it becomes a cruel calculus. of the hundreds of prisoners hamas wants released surely many will return to terrorist political activities, and unknown israeli innocents will pay for it with their lives. do we have the moral right to buy one life at the expense of others. NO. NO. NO. my son is a soldier but does not say Gilad should be freed at any price. he risks being captured or killed, but does not take an easy, glib, stand. yes, save Gilads life, but don't endasnger others. i don't have the answer, and neither does anyone else.. that is the cruelty of the Hamas postion.
