Excellent commentary. I've read here that, perhaps, Mr. Levy had no choice but to take this view, given his participation in Oslo and other peace initiatives. One must remember that, just because Mr. Levy was part of creating those treaties, he wasn't involved in implementing them, and things didn't always go according to plan, on both sides. The so-called neo-cons have been a disaster for the US. Their elixir for a "New Middle East" was viewed as snake-oil from the start, here, and is now seen by most for what it was. They did deliver on their promise, however -- we now have a Middle East that is far more unstable than it's been in a century. And still, these guys hold great sway in Washington, as Levy outlines. At this point, I actually have to agree with Newt Gingrich on one thing -- that we are likely seeing the beginnings of WWIII. However, unlike Gingrich and his pals, I don't believe that it *had* to happen.
