    This is a well stated piece, but it does not touch on the Israel’s dishonesty with respect to a nuclear middle east. If Israel has the courage to endorse nuclear non-proliferation by agreeing to exactly what it is seeking from Iran, a diplomatic solution might actually evolve. The government enforces amimut to forestall honest discussion about Israel’s nuclear posture. Israel could quickly put Iran in a corner by accepting IAEA inspections of the Dimona facility and Israel's other facilities. Iran has always sought a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East, a goal shared by the Arab nations and Turkey but always frustrated by Israel, with the complicity of the US. To be sure, "trust, but verify" will be a requirement, just as it was between Ronald Reagan and the USSR. Israel now is in a position, with its extensive conventional armory, to raise the nuclear shroud of secrecy and this is the moment to do it, before the rest of the Middle East joins a race for Nukes. Honesty about Israel’s nuclear arsenal might just be the best policy.
