It is rare that the IDF goes toe to toe with an armed and organized enemy. This did happen briefly when the IDF armor and infantry crossed into Lebanon. After some fierce skirmishes with Hizbollah, the IDF withdrew from Lebanon leaving a number of burning Merkava tanks in their wake. Israel is a nation that prefers to win their wars indirectly, such as they did with Saddam and are attempting with Iran. Far better to watch from a distance while America does the heavy lifting. Other indirect methods favored by Israel include assassination, cyber warfare, and dropping bags of candy into minefields and cluster bomb areas. I am certain that Israel will war with Hizbollah again but I am equally certain that they won't battle them face to face again. That is a lesson well learned.
