Hitchens was truly an untamed intellectual, free to formulate and express his opinions as he saw them without, as we tend to say, fear or favor. My guess is he could care less what people thought of his views. If He found Israel and its occupation to be wrong, so be it. If the Palestinians went to excessive lengths, well that should be condemned too. I doubt that his discovery that his mother was Jewish was anything to him but an interesting fact about his mother.
